The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the world's top research institutions. EMBL's missions are: to perform basic research in molecular biology, to train scientists, students and visitors at all levels, to offer services to scientists, and to develop new instruments and methods in the life sciences, and technology transfer. The European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) is EMBL's centre for research and services in bioinformatics. The Institute manages the largest databases of biological data and coordinates many standardisation efforts.
EBI is the centre of European bioinformatics, and its 500 staffs will provide expertise in every technology needed by the project. The three PIs involved in the project are world experts in the field of modeling and simulation for life science, and are leaders or participants in all related standardisation efforts in Systems Biology, Physiology and Neurosciences. In particular they are recognised authorities in markup languages and ontologies. In addition, they are developing many software relevant to this activity, whether simulators, APIs, converters, databases etc.
